BioThane® is a coated webbing with a flexible substrate
protected by a durable coating.
What is BioThane®?
BioThane® is the brand name of all coated
webbing products made by
BioThane Coated Webbing Corp.
Basically a polyester webbing with
a TPU or PVC coating that makes
it more durable, waterproof,
easy to clean and weldable.
Why is BioThane® better than leather?
BioThane® is more durable, cleanable,
stronger and easier to maintain.
It is also readily available in different colors.
Is BioThane made in the USA?
Yes, BioThane® is manufactured in
our only plant located in
North Ridgeville, Ohio in the USA.
Is Beta BioThane?
YES! Beta® is a registered trademark owned by BioThane Coated Webbing Corp.
Beta® is considered a "coating class" of BioThane®.
Does synthetic hurt the animals?
Not any more than leather!
As long as you size the end product correctly
it should never hurt your animal.
Will it smell if the animal gets wet?
No, BioThane® is stink proof.
How long will it last?
Under normal use, BioThane® will long outlast
leather and nylon.
Will the color fade?The opaque colors tend to hold color significantly longer than the fluorescent colors.
In general, the deeper the shade of the hue,
the longer it will last.
Will it still work in cold weather?
Yes.!! BioThane remains flexible and
durable in cold weather.
Does it get sticky or tacky?
Under normal use it will not get sticky or tacky.
It can get sticky or tacky if it is exposed
to certain chemicals like DEET.
Will the material cause hot spots?
The material will only cause hot spots if the
animal is not fitted properly with the
correct size product.
Does the material breakaway if caught?
Most producers design their products with a breakaway feature.
What coating class should I use?
The most common are Beta®, Gold and Granite®. Depending on your application,
one of our coating classes is sure to fit your needs.

Does the coating add strength?
No. The tensile strength comes from the polyester webbing inside.
How strong is the webbing?
We have three different standard webbing that are commonly used.
There is no extra charge for custom orders.
We are not a "one size fits all" operation.
We encourage our customers to measure their horse
for a proper, custom fit.

- GOLD SERIES is the classic genuine BioThane® coating. The first ever BioThane® was manufactured in an Ohio basement in 1977. All gold series products are glossy in appearance and they feature excellent abrasion resistance and flexibility. The gold series belting is coated exclusively with urethane. The gold series comes in both Translucent (Neon) and Opaque colors.
- BETA® SERIES is the closest thing to leather in the equine marketplace. Since its inception in 1999, Beta® has steadily gained the trust of halter makers and tack makers alike. The main attribute is the soft-to-the-hand feel Beta® is equipped with. The PVC coating has a classic leather grain emboss pattern on the surface making it difficult to tell Beta® from real leather.
